FRED BENEST
Fred Benest is a retired Advocate of the Royal Court.
He is currently a trustee of The John Lobb Memorial Trust which assists young singers, and also young musicians to enable them to make a career in music. He is the Chairman both of The Glass Rainbow Trust, which promotes the life and work of local stained glass artist Henry Thomas Bosdet, and of Cantabile Jersey, a mixed voice choir which specialises in church music. He also researches and advises upon the history of local footpaths and writes for the Trinity Tattler.
SUZANNE CONOOPS
Suzanne qualified as a teacher at the College of St Matthias, Bristol.
She worked for the States of Jersey throughout her career, initially as a primary school teacher and then as a Headteacher – firstly at St Mary’s School and then, for nineteen years, at Plat Douet School. Her final role was as a Senior Adviser, supporting headteachers, and leading in teacher training, across both the primary and secondary sectors.
Since her retirement in 2020, she has been a volunteer at St Saviour’s School for the Every Child Our Future charity. She is also the Chairman of the Modern Languages section of the Jersey Eisteddfod.
MICHAEL MARETT-CROSBY
Michael holds an MA and PhD from Oxford University and trained as a Catholic priest.
Since 2010, he has worked for the growth of civil society and democracy in Myanmar, in which education plays a key role.
Michael is a trustee of Prospect Burma, a charity that has awarded scholarships since 1988, and a number of other Burma-focused organisations.He is also a trustee of a global child protection charity, the Lucy Faithfull Foundation.
STEPHANIE NICOLLE
Stephanie graduated from the University of Durham with a degree in English Language and Literature.
She subsequently qualified as a lawyer, and is the author of The Origin and Development of Jersey Law: An Outline Guide.
Following retirement in 2008 she has been an Adjunct Professor of Immovable Property Law and Conveyancing at the Jersey Institute of Law, and was for a time a member of the management committee of the Association for Elderly and Infirm Women, a charity which runs Glanville, a home for elderly ladies: although no longer a member of the committee, she remains a member of the association. She is currently engaged on a translation for the Société Jersiaise of the Civil War Journal of Jean Chevalier.
SARAH JOHNSON
Sarah graduated from Loughborough University with a degree in Civil Engineering, and also has a Masters from Imperial College, London.
Sarah worked at Jersey College for Girls as Head of Science and Senior Teacher and subsequently as Senior Adviser at the Education Department.
Since retirement, Sarah has become a Trustee for the Jersey Island Federation of Women’s Institutes.
MICHAEL DE LA HAYE
Michael graduated from the University of Nottingham with a degree in French. After working abroad for 6 years he joined the public sector in Jersey in 1986 and spent the last 13 years of his career as Greffier of the States.
He is currently a lay member of the Employment and Discrimination Tribunal and a member of the boards of the Public Employees Pension Scheme and the Jersey Teachers Superannuation Fund.
He is a committee member of the Alliance Française and the French Eisteddfod, a trustee of the Les Vaux Housing Trust and he also writes obituaries and features for the Jersey Evening Post.
